Looking to get rid of the mirrors in your motorhome or travel trailer bedroom? Take a look at how these RV owners gave their closets a makeover!
1. Turning Mirrored Closet Doors Into Faux Barn Doors
Kathy Bross made her mirrored closet doors look like barn doors by covering them with wood plank wallpaper, then adding narrow strips of the wallpaper to look like beams.
3. Creating a Frosted Glass Look
Kelly Hussin added vinyl decals to her mirrored doors that look like etched glass.
4. Using Spray Paint to Create a Frosted Look
Ginger McCarty used Krylon frosted glass spray paint on her mirrors, then added a vinyl decal.
5. Making Faux Wood Panels
Melissa Martin used bead board wallpaper and hinge decals to create this look.
7. Replacing Closet with Cube Storage
Kate Hopson of WheeledAndFree.com removed her closet doors altogether, replacing them with cube storage and curtains.
8. Dressing Up Closet Doors With a Vinyl Decal
Lisa Booker trimmed a wall mural to fit her closet doors. Now she can feel like she's next to the ocean no matter where she's parked!
9. Decorating Mirrored Closet Doors with Window Film
Nikki Brister used this window film to update the look the mirrored doors in her RV.
Christy Oliver covered her mirrors with patterned window film.
10. Making Mirrored Doors Look Like Japanese Style Doors
Last but not least, I turned my closet doors into “Japanese shoji screens.” I explained how I made them in this blog post.

Talk about a makeover. These are some really great ideas to transform a room! I love the barn door idea. I had mirror closets when I lived in my flat that design would have been perfect for. I might even give it a try on the closet doors we have now. Thanks for sharing!
Great ideas! We just recently purchased a camper and I’m always looking for fun ideas to upgrade 🙂
These are such great ideas! I love the wood plank wallpaper “barn doors” like crazy!!!y husband and I have been looking into buying our first rv, and I struggle with decorating ideas that wouldn’t add too much weight. I’m so glad I found your site!!!
Decorating an RV is so much fun! 🙂 Lots of lightweight ideas out there!
I love the Japanese style you chose for you re-do!! Adds to the tranquil vibe of your space!! I’m also a fan of #7–her cubes and lights were very cute! Storage is always a good thing!
Thank you! Maybe someday we will give our whole camper a Japanese-themed makeover! Hmmm….
These are great ideas! I love how the closet doors were removed and replaced with curtains and cube storage ~Xoxo
I like #10. I am glad we don’t have mirrors like that in our trailer bedroom. We do have them on the closets beside the bed over the endtables. I would love to have the storage space but can’t complain because between the living area and our bedroom, across from the roomy bathroom is a wardrobe which we outfitted with inexpensive plastic drawers on one side and use the hanging rod on the other for my clothes (including some dresses).
I sometimes wish I had a closet in my living room! 🙂 I only have a few longer hanging items (dresses) but have several coats that are really too bulky for my wall coat rack.
Love the idea of the decorative film on the mirrored doors. I found two on Amazon that actually have a color design in them – there’s no wall space in the room for art. Worried, tho, that having it on a mirror as opposed to a window might not be “light” enough to show the colors well. Any thoughts?
Both of those are so pretty! I especially love the brown and yellow one (because those are colors I use a lot in my own decor). I think the colors would still show on the mirror, although the darker colors might not be quite as distinct. I certainly think it would be worth a try!
where would I find a wall mural similar to the one pictured in no. 8?
I used to have a link to that exact decal, but it appears it’s no longer available. Here are some you might look at, and if you like the brick look maybe you could put one of the window ones over some brick wallpaper as a background?
