Before-and-After: This RV Bedroom Renovation Went from Dark and Dingy to A Serene Suite

Most of the gorgeous RV renovations we see on Instagram show off insane living room remodels or surprisingly spacious kitchens. Bedrooms are often the last room to be renovated or showcased. But this floor-to-ceiling remodel shows off a head-turning makeover that has us thinking of ideas for our own RV bedroom renovation.
This old RV bedroom looks straight out of the early nineties. You can practically smell the mothballs! But RVer Kaitlynn Roberts of DRK Customs shared in our Facebook group the 180º transformation from ew to WOW.
Before:
Yes, Kaitlynn confirmed that the mattress was the first thing to head to the dumpster! I imagine the stained carpet followed shortly after.
This bedroom was a couple decades overdue for a proper makeover! Look at the giant hole where a box TV used to live.
So dark, so gloomy.
After ?
Let’s reimagine that dark space into something bright and welcoming!
I can’t imagine a single inch of this bedroom wasn’t touched. Here are a few of the biggest renovations Kaitlynn made in this RV bedroom renovation:
- Replaced the carpet with vinyl wood floors
- Painted the walls, trim, and bed platform white
- Replaced the slide-out trim
- Replaced the cabinet doors with something more modern
- Replaced light fixtures
One of my favorite touches is the simple shiplap headboard painted to match the walls. It’s subtle enough not to clash with decor and it will match changing styles.

But the biggest difference maker for this renovation is the ceiling. These older RVs often have bulky A/C units, vents, antenna cranks (remember those?) and who knows what else on the ceiling. Scroll back up to the before photo to see a questionably yellow light fixture.
Keeping these all intact is the easy option, but Kaitlynn smartly removed everything. I know from experience that the more holes in your ceiling, the more likely you will have roof leaks. By removing things like the antenna (AKA what caused a major roof leak in my old motorhome), you can eliminate future headaches.
It’s a seemingly skippable task, but one that can make a difference aesthetically and save you on costly repairs.

If you’re revamping your bedroom, one of the most important features not to skip is your window treatments! All of the best, coziest renovations have new window treatments, and bamboo blinds are definitely the most popular.
Choose a window treatment to fit your style, but definitely remove the old boxy RV standard valances and replace them with something modern.
For her RV bedroom renovation, Kaitlynn chose the “coffee” shade of these bamboo blinds:
- [Product Dimension]Blind size: 39’’W x 72’’H, Fabric size: 37.6’’W x 72’’H, Color: Coffee. *Noted:The fabric width is 1.4” narrower than the total blind width (Due to the brackets at the both ends). For inside mount, select shade width should be 0~0.2”smaller than your window width. For outside mount, select shade width should be 2”~ 4”wider than your window width.
How to Tastefully Decorate Your Bedroom
When you’re shopping for a house, you almost always see photos of the space staged to show off how warm and inviting the space can be once you’re in it. One thing this renovator has done remarkably well is stage the space to feel instantly like home.
The room itself is already filled with comforting colors and a plush bed. Kaitlynn added plants, a surefire to make any room feel instantly more welcoming (whether they are fake or real!). She also decorated with a simple frame and candles.
In reality, if this were my RV, there would also be a pile of to-be-folded clothes tossed on top of the dresser and tangled charging cords next to the bed. ?
But these three elements—art, plants, and candles—are classic ways to decorate your bedroom and make it feel as comfortable as home while you’re camping.
Already worried about broken glass?
Use museum putty to keep your vase and other decor in place. It won’t budge while driving, and your bedroom will always look great. Just because your home moves doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice having a beautiful space.
Recreate this look with decor like this:
- [Frameless Design]: Please note that poster are frameless. There are only canvas posters. You can stick them directly on the wall or prepare a suitable frame. You can easily put our art suit into the frame and fix it on the wall to decorate your room perfectly
- Made with high-quality materials, this candelabra is built to withstand the demands of event decor. Its sleek and elegant design also makes it a stunning decorative piece for your home, adding a touch of sophistication to any room.
- 1 piece grey glass vase carefully packaged, vase filler not included,Each glass bottle is individually packaged, with a thickened buffer material added to ensure that it is not easily damaged during transportation.
Keep the Mirrored Doors or Cover?
For a while, we saw a trend of removing or covering mirrored closet doors in RV bedrooms. But mirrors are a great way to make a room feel bigger.
More often lately, renovators keep the mirrored doors and and update the trim or cabinets to make the mirrors look more modern.
