Whether your RV is your home on the road or home away from home, you want to enjoy the view from your windows while driving and relaxing at your campsite. But you also want privacy and ease of use as well.

You might be saying: “There are so many blinds out there! Where do I even start?!” I said the same thing when I began looking, so I hope I’ve made it a little easier for you. We are here to be a resource in your search for rv blinds or rv window shades, whether you are doing a total renovation or just need an RV replacement window treatment. Soo….

Let’s begin!

In my search for the best roller shade, I found you can spend as little or as much as you want on cost. You can also go with blinds explicitly made for RVs or regular blinds made for homes. We will look at a few of both for you to compare.

Before we get into the specific blinds, let’s look at the difference between blinds and shades. The difference is the way they are constructed. Blinds are horizontal slats that can be tilted to allow light in or out. Shades can be made of one or multiple pieces of fabric, having only two positions, open or closed.

I’ve listed six blinds/shades for you to view. For ease of reading, in this article, I use RV shades, RV blinds, and RV roller shades interchangeably throughout, but I am referring to the roller shade. Scroll through this article to find what you need to help decide which roller shade is best for you and your RV.

3. MCD Innovations

MCD has been around for many years, making blinds specifically for RV windows. I found a chat in the Keystone RV forum about replacing RV blinds. MCD was mentioned several times as being used with good reviews.

They have an advanced window shade system called the Impulse Window Shade System. It is designed with solar protection and 100% privacy capability, and you have your choice of two systems.

The Impulse Dual Day AND Night Manual Shade System has TWO roller shades with a fabric-wrapped valance. The Solo Day OR Night Manual Shade System gives you ONE roller shade with a fabric-wrapped valance. Both of these have an all-in-one design, providing you with easy installation and built-in valance.

One nice perk is the ability to change the valance fabric when you want to update and replace it for a new look. Find out more at this link.

4. AutoMotionShade RV Roller Shade System for RVs

This roller shade is an option if you want to upgrade from manual to power. Bradd & Hall RV Furniture has been making RV furniture for many years, and they manufacture this RV shade system. It comes with a remote control for ease of opening and closing. The day shade has a solar sunscreen, providing excellent visibility and reducing heat and glare. The night shade completely blocks out light, providing privacy and excellent viewing of your TV or computer screen.

The cockpit windshield is available in power only. If your RV has a power cockpit windshield, the wiring is already available, which will reduce costs. If it did not come prewired, the company can easily install the wiring for you with no problem. You can find more information on this automated window system here.

Roller Blinds Found on Amazon and More

Many people, myself included, were unsure if you could use regular home blinds or shades for an RV. I’ve read through various RV forums and found people use both.

However, I read somewhere that the blinds explicitly made for RVs are often thicker and more ”sturdy” for travel down the road. They also are made to allow light into your home away from home and still maintain privacy.

But, if you don’t necessarily want to purchase roller blinds made specifically for RVs, there are other options. I’ve listed two from Amazon below for you to consider.

5. Boolagon Blackout Roller Shades

These Boolagon Blackout Roller Shades have 158 ratings with 81 reviews on Amazon, and 88% of those reviews are 5-star ratings! Overall, customers who purchased this product were pleased with their purchase.

These roller shades are customized and, according to all the reviews, very easy to install. One buyer in the reviews said they installed 5 roller blinds within 30 minutes, while others said their installation time was within an hour. Customers love the blackout feature, allowing them to watch TV without a glare. Who wants a glare on TV when trying to watch your favorite movie? Not me!

The Boolagon Blackout Roller Shades are made of pure natural linen. They are also cordless, which eliminates light sneaking through when not wanted. An inside or outside mount is available, and a representative will help you customize your windows with the correct measurement for the mount you choose. So, no stress on trying to figure out the correct size.

6. Blindsgalore

This company has a plethora of blinds to choose from. One is the Dual Roller RV Shades, where you can choose fabric options, including solar screen or blackout. When you select solar, you have three color choices, and two options when choosing blackout. The solar will provide daytime privacy, while the blackout provides nighttime privacy, according to the Blindsgalore website.

These shades are wrinkle-free, fire-resistant, and roll up nicely and compact, preserving your view. They have a cordless lift, an inside mount at the top, and an outside mount on the side. You can find out more about them on their website here.

Installing Your RV Roller Shade

It is easy to install your new RV Roller Shades, according to those who have already been through the process. Here are a few tips.

  1. Be sure the face of the fabric is facing inward toward the room, whether reverse or standard roll.
  2. Some people have even used Command Strips instead of drilling to hang their RV Roller Blinds. That will be a choice you will make for your own comfort of travel and the sturdiness of the installation.
  3. The brackets can be installed on the wall, ceiling, or inside the window frame.
  4. Be sure the brackets are level so the fabric will roll up correctly, allowing it to roll up smoothly. The outer edge of the bracket needs to be 1 ⅜” wider than the fabric.
