You Won’t Believe The Shower in This Toy Hauler Renovation

Gone are the days of renovating RVs with all-white walls and cabinets! Renovators are no longer afraid of bold colors and developing their own unexpected design methods.
Meet Jute, a toy hauler renovation with bold patterns and natural wood accents that make it like a one-of-a-kind studio. (It even has a bathtub!)
Amelia and Dave of @BBandtheRV tackled the complete transformation of this 2006 Thor Vortex toy hauler. The husband and wife duo started doing custom renovations on RVs during the pandemic and this is their 11th remodel.

A Backsplash You Won’t Believe
Love the tile backsplash? Despite the appearance, it isn’t tile, or even peel-and-stick!
“The backsplash and shower are actually a wallpaper that was imported from London that I was in love with,” says Amelia.
“I waterproofed the wallpaper with a double-sided adhesive mat and waterproofing seam strips behind it, and I painted the top of it with a boat varnish. This is a method I invented and has stood the test of time in our fifth wheel for the last year, showering daily.”
Wallpaper is a great alternative backsplash idea since it’s essentially weightless and can be much more affordable than tile. But using it as a shower surround is a interesting new design development we’ve never seen before!

DIY Wood Accents Anyone Can Do
In addition to continuing the wallpaper from the kitchen to the bathroom, the renovators also made custom countertops in each room.
“We did the countertops out of edge glued pine, we sanded them down, wood conditioned, stained, and poly top-coated them,” said Amelia.

The countertops aren’t the only wood accent in this RV. The drop-down bed was given a ceiling makeover.
Stained wood planks were nailed to the underside of the bed to create a wood plank ceiling effect. “We used liquid nails and Brad nailed it on,” Amelia explained.
Wait, Is That A Swing?!
Just when you think you’ve seen everything that can be done in an RV renovation, you see this:
After adding the wood ceiling to the bed, the renovators added this fun swing as extra seating when the deck is lowered.

This small addition is a great way to connect the outside patio and the interior living room, expanding your floor space in this tiny trailer.
Tips for Renovating a Toy Hauler
Renovating a toy hauler isn’t too unlike renovating other trailers. Many toy haulers already have the drop-down bed installed. Since the tracks and bed are already installed, it’s important to diligently choose any furniture that will go under the bed.
Most importantly, make “sure the couch sits low enough that the bed doesn’t crush it” when lowered.
With the fold-out deck and transformable living room, a toy hauler trailer floorplan like this is great for giving you more square footage than you have on paper.
“We’ve always wanted to do a mini studio apartment on wheels. I’ve had this vision for years of a bed that comes down from the ceiling and it becomes this cozy space where you can lay and look out at the beach or mountains, or wherever you’re parked and have an open-air concept,” Amelia said of the renovation.
“Then, when the bed is up, you have a super cozy living room with a view. We’ve also always wanted to have a deck or patio seamlessly part of the design, Jute turned out exactly like we had envisioned.”
