12 Clever, Space-Saving Furniture Ideas for RVs

Ashley Mann spent three years living full time in a 38-foot, 5th-wheel RV with her husband Josiah and their cat, Kitty. Her favorite thing about RV life is the challenge of finding the perfect way to organize a space, and she loves seeing all the creative and clever ways people come up with to customize their RVs.
Many RVers think they have to buy expensive RV-specific furniture to replace old, worn out, or outdated couches, recliners, and other furniture in their camper or motorhome, but in fact, countless RV owners (myself included) have replaced the factory-installed furniture with “regular” furniture without any issues long as the furniture meets weight requirements and is secured somehow during travel.
Take a look at some of theses ideas for giving your RV a furniture makeover!
Expanding Shaker style table
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
This table expands from a buffet for two to a full-sized dining table that comfortably seats six. You could get a few folding chairs to bring out when needed.

Foldable “Origami” Kitchen Island
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
If you need extra counter space but don't have room to add something permanent, this folding kitchen island is the perfect solution. I love the stylish mock butcher block top, and that it comes in four different colors.

Drop leaf counter height table
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
Since the leaves fold out from the ends, this table could be used as an island, or it could stay pushed up against a wall for just two or three people to use without blocking the drawers or having to pull it out for use. Or, if you keep a few extra folding bar stools, you could pull it out and seat four around it when needed.

Drop leaf island in white

What I love about it:
Same idea as the one above, but the style of this one would be a better match for beach-themed or farmhouse style decor.

Lift coffee table with drawer
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
With the drawers, which would be ideal for storing office supplies, this coffee table would make a wonderful desk. You could also use it for eating and eliminate the need for a dinette booth or dining table.
Smart lift top ottoman
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
A storage ottoman bench is what we use for a coffee table in our RV. We store shoes in it, and it's handy to be able to sit on it while putting our shoes on. We keep a wood serving tray sitting on top as a hard surface to set drinks on. The thing that stood out to me about this one was the way the lid lifts from each side, meaning you wouldn't have to remove a tray sitting on top to access the contents; you could just slide it to one end. Also, this ottoman comes in three solid colors and five fun prints.

Wall-mounted writing desk
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
This fold-out desk could be hung on a wall next to the bed to create a workspace in the bedroom.

Narrow desk with slide out
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
This desk is narrow and has a keyboard slide-out, making its overall footprint in your RV small.

Office Chair
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
I love that this office chair is pretty as well as functional and would look nice in any room. In addition to the colors pictured below, it also comes in gray as well as a black and white cowhide print.

Wood butterfly chair
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
The leather style is perfect for trendy boho or modern rustic decor, but it would also look great in a camper with a cowboy or cabin inspired decor theme. Since it folds out of the way, it could be pulled out as extra seating for guests. It could also be used outside as a lawn chair that looks pretty inside as well.

The CouchBed – Memory Foam Mattress + Sofa
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
The biggest draw about this sleeper sofa to me is the versatility. Not only is it just a really cool idea to have a comfortable memory foam mattress that can fold in half to become a couch, it also comes in a queen size or a smaller twin size, and with several different color options for the removable, washable cover.

Also, it can be used by itself on the floor, on top of a DIY base (such as wood pallets), or, the company sells a really nifty pull-out wooden platform base:

Futon Chair with Folding Mattress
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
This futon chair provides a stylish way to add extra seating and have an extra bed for a nap or an overnight guest. It also comes in several pretty color options.

I LOVE the lift coffee table! Does it raise high enough to use as a writing or crafting surface?
I’m not sure, but I would think so!
