How to Add a Kitchen Island to Your RV

Ashley Mann spent three years living full time in a 38-foot, 5th-wheel RV with her husband Josiah and their cat, Kitty. Her favorite thing about RV life is the challenge of finding the perfect way to organize a space, and she loves seeing all the creative and clever ways people come up with to customize their RVs.
Adding an island to your RV kitchen provides additional counter and storage space as well as a place to eat meals, perhaps making it possible to remove your dinette booth or traditional table and freeing up some of the space they occupy.
Kitchen island set with stools and baskets
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
The shelves would be great for an RV since they have a “lip” that would prevent things from sliding off.
Foldable “Origami” Kitchen Island
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
If you need extra counter space but don’t have room to add something permanent, this folding kitchen island is the perfect solution. I love the stylish mock butcher block top, and that it comes in four different colors.

Drop leaf island with wheels

What I love about it:
Two drawers and a towel rack add extra storage, and the stools can be stored underneath and the leaf put down when not in use. The wheels would make it convenient to move when it was time to bring the RV slides in.
Drop leaf island in white

What I love about it:
Same idea as the one above, but the style of this one would be a better match for beach-themed or farmhouse style decor.
Drop leaf rolling cart with storage racks
Where to buy it:
Formerly, this was on Amazon. It has been out of stock for a while but anything similar will offer the same benefits.
What I love about it:
With both leaves down, this island takes up very little kitchen space (just 16.1″ x 14.5″), but can be rolled out and placed wherever needed for projects such as meal prep, baking, ironing, or crafting. The baskets underneath would be perfect for storing potatoes or onions.
Drop leaf counter height table
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
Since the leaves fold out from the ends, this table could be used as an island, or it could stay pushed up against a wall for just two or three people to use without blocking the drawers or having to pull it out for use. Or, if you keep a few extra folding bar stools, you could pull it out and seat four around it when needed.

Industrial island
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
The industrial style of this island / table reminds me of a trendy coffee shop. Add a French press and you would never need to visit Portland (or use a drip coffee maker) again.

Small Island with Wire Baskets
Where to buy it:
What I love about it:
I like how much extra storage this little cart ads. Not only can you put things in the baskets, but with S hooks you can hang items from the wire as well.
