Is Waggle the Best RV Pet Monitoring System? Our Waggle Review

What is the size of a deck of playing cards that could save your pet’s life? Why, a Waggle, of course.Ā

Donā€™t worryā€”Iā€™m not speaking gibberish. “Waggle” is a remote pet monitoring system. It’s a small cellular-enabled device that monitors and transmits environmental data such as temperature, humidity, and power loss. It’s literally a lifesaving device for anyone who travels with pets.Ā

If you are anything like us, then the welfare of our beloved pets is priority one.

Because my wife and I show and breed Newfoundland dogs, we are constantly on the road. Sometimes, it’s just in our Transit van, but a lot of times, we have our travel trailer as well. Yes, our show dogs get ā€œa trailerā€ to relax in between ring times.

And one of the most important tools we take when we travel is our Waggle. Not only have we had one for several years now, but my wife just ordered a second one!

Why is a pet monitoring system necessary?

We all know how quickly an RV can heat up in the hot sun without the AC running. Let’s face it, these things, generally, have about as much insulation as a paper lantern.

With that in mind, it’s vital to know when there is a power loss or if the AC unit shuts down randomly on its own. Weā€™ve experienced both. RV parks are notorious for having antiquated electrical systems.

Or if your RV is running off a generator, it may run out of fuel.

Weā€™ve also had our AC unit ice over. Some of the biggest causes for that are:

  • the drain for condensation water is blocked due to leaves or other debris
  • the RV not being level
  • or the filters are dirty and not getting enough airflow.

And trust me, when you have several 150-pound furry friends living in a shoebox, those filters get dirty fast.

We also use our Waggle in our home when we arenā€™t traveling. Living on the East Coast, there tend to be many power outages, and weā€™ve been alerted of such an event more than once while out.

How Does Waggle Work?

When you get your Waggle Pet Monitor, download the app and set up your account. In the app you set the threshold for temperatures you want to get alerts for. This will probably differ depending on your pets.

In the case of our Newfies, who like it as cold as possible, the low end alert is set to ā€œHell Freezing Over.ā€ And the high end is set to two degrees warmer than that. (That’s humor, not a typo)

You can set up five user accounts, and each user can select how they want to be alertedā€”email or text. I personally get both.

The device itself comes with a mounting bracket that it clips in and out of easily.Ā

The Waggle subscription can be purchased in 6 month to 2 year intervals, the latter being the most cost-effective. Waggle exclusively uses Verizon, which has been very reliable in our case. Even though you cannot bundle the Waggle subscription with other Verizon services, that wasnā€™t a big deal for us. We just appreciate the device and the peace of mind that comes with it.

The app is simple and easy to navigate. Although, we hardly use it unless we want to specifically check the temperature. Otherwise, we just rely on the alerts to let us know if there is an issue.

Waggle offers two different models. The Waggle Lite+, and the Waggle Pro+. While both provide monitoring of temp, humidity, and power loss, the Pro gives you GPS Tracking, and Geofencing alert. The latter is just a fancy term for a proximity alarm, ie; Itā€™ll alert you if Klingons are getting too close to the ship.Ā

 Waggle Lite+

  • Real-Time Temperature Alert
  • RV Power Loss Alert
  • Power Recovery Alert

The Waggle website almost always has some sort of coupon or promotion on the device itself, and tends to be cheaper than Amazon. But it’s always good to check both places. They also offer a referral program, so make sure to look into that before you buy as well.

Waggle does offer a line of cameras and pet feeders, but we have yet to try those. Guess theyā€™ll have to go on my Santa Paws list.

Waggle: The Best Pet Monitoring System?

At the end of the day, having the ability to monitor the environmental conditions in your RV, vehicle, or home is paramount to the health of your dogs, cats, ferrets, or in-laws. Yes, there are other pet monitor options on the marketā€¦But for us, Waggle works the best!
